Should i go on a missions trip

They sleep on the floor and have never heard of air conditioning, although temperatures often hover around 90 degrees. Yet without hesitating, they will serve you, their visitor, their last bit of rice. They give from their necessity, because they do not have an overabundance. Their generosity is overwhelming, and while we may think they are poor, spiritually they are rich. Missions give you a chance to experience their lives and discover why and how they live that way.

Or, if you have, do you want to go deeper and experience Him in a new way? How about experiencing Him in Adoration on the other side of the world, where there is dancing and music and joy that surpasses understanding?

How about looking Him in the eye as He lies helpless and tired in the form of a stranger? How about experiencing His love through the generosity of the poor? On a mission, our eyes are opened to seeing God in ways we never have before. Our distractions and the pressures of American college life are left behind us, leaving us open and vulnerable to the crazy love of God.

Not even once. The name of Jesus Christ is completely foreign to them. Even in places where people have heard the name of Jesus, a re -proclamation of the Gospel is desperately needed, too. As Catholics, it is our duty to share that Good News with them. FOCUS missions gives you that chance. Going on mission trips will open your eyes to another way of life. Americans thrive on busyness. We have coffee for lunch and brag who got less sleep the night before. Smartphones beg for our attention and social media drives our interactions with the world.

During mission trips, you get to disconnect from this craziness. We have many resources in the United States. Will God really use me? So often, we can start from a place of shame, fear, or doubt when it comes to assessing if we are ready to be used by God.

We often doubt that Jesus could ever use a broken sinner like you or me to do his wonderful and incredible work. This reminds me of Tara who is now my wife! She had never heard the gospel until attending a Summit fall retreat, and when Loni walked through the Knowing God Personally booklet with her. When Tara heard the gospel for the first time, she was amazed and astounded by the simplicity of the message and the profound love of God.

She was so changed by this life-transforming message that six months after she began her relationship with Jesus, she was getting ready to board a plane for a mission trip.

I just became a Christian! I think this was a bad decision. You might feel like you could never do the things that those amazing missionaries do. Just think for a moment about the very first people that Jesus chose to be his ambassadors. Over two thousand years ago, a ragtag group of Jesus-loving followers changed the world.

Those young men and women, who were probably around the same age as many of you, were not exceptional people. The first disciples were far from perfect. They were former Pharisees, tax collectors, and people of low social standing.

They were uneducated, reformed religious hypocrites, considered traitors to their nation. Oftentimes they fought and had disagreements. They frequently said the wrong things, they bickered amongst themselves, they were proud, they pushed little kids away from Jesus, and they were impulsive.
